Pearls for Angela

April 7, 2011

Another sweet meditation in creating jewelry.  Diving into the treasure chest of beads and findings to create something new and subtle and fresh.  Just like my friend Angie.

The elements used here are:  shape, random, texture, contrast, and metallic color mixing.

Brass and Copper colored wires, white and grey pearls, quartz and copper lined glass beads.

I am finding that I enjoy more doing the custom pieces for people, in order to create a design that is fitting for them.

A Raven Sings

March 17, 2011

While I was out walking this morning I paused to let the beauty of Northwest artist, Tony Angell wash over me.  He has amazing sculptures everywhere around our region…..and even one at the Mount Baker Ski Lodge.

This one in particular makes me happy.

These days I’m just as excited to be tumbling around in the city as I am in the woods.  Everywhere I look there is so much beauty.  And my heart is full.  I am stretching the confines of my being to include a more vast perspective on living.  And it is bringing wonder to every moment.

Thanks Universe for this beautiful unfolding.  I am richer for being You.

A return to crafting

March 7, 2011

I made a pair of earrings over the weekend for my friend Katie.  They really looked great.  I kept complimenting her as she wore them on Friday evening.  She said, “you’re not gonna take ’em back, are ya?”

I liked them so much I went home and made myself another pair just like them.  Small differences in the stone colors, as pietersite has so much natural variety in the swirling and mixing of the minerals.

Tigers eye, Pietersite, with 14K gold filled wire (aka rolled gold), and a silver colored metal diamond.

It’s been a long time since I’ve danced with the gems and metals.

And it’s giving me chance to hone my photo skills using the macro settings and lighting.

I like how the reflection in the diamond of me taking the photo has the same colors as the Pietersite stones.

The second pair I made has different stone colors.  But is basically a replica of the 1st pair.

I like how the lighting changes the look of the subject.

If you click on this photo you can see the amazing color play within the stone.  And I notice how they are based in the primary colors:  red, blue and yellow.  Pietersite is a rare occurence of the tiger eye stone.  It is found primarily in South Africa.  It is mostly quartz and asbestos with iron.

Fun!  And this gives me the opportunity to talk mineral speak as I used to enjoy when I had a small stone, crystal and jewelry business already a decade ago……wow.  Time flies.

Appreciation, yeah.

It was icy and windy on my way home to the mountains last weekend.  On my favorite road from town into the hills I pulled over to photograph these ducks that were floating in the half frozen pond (that was actually a flooded field).

I thought, “How cool.  These cute little ducks.”

And on the other side of the intersection I came upon another congregation of birds…….flaunting their wings on the thermals.  In 30 plus mph winds these gorgeous avians, immature and bald were playing hopscotch.

This time a small tear came.  And I thought, “How cool.  they are dancing in this icy wind.  And I get to see it.”  There were a dozen of them.  And they live in my neighborhood.

Beauty, everywhere I look.  The dance of life, such an amazing journey.  Appreciation, yeah.

Nature Gives Her All

March 3, 2011

For those of you who don’t know, I live in the mountains and I also live in the city.  (Lucky me!)  Here are some city shots.

I’m loving getting to know the parks and beaches in my  new neighborhood.  The landscapes are simply Divine.  We are truly blessed in the Pacific NW.  Mountains, trees, water ways, and stunning animals.  I wouldn’t trade this for year round sunny weather any day…..I’m a water Soul.

Thank You Mama!  For this Beautiful Life and Stunning corner of our world to live in.  That’s for my mama, and for the Earth Mama too.

Oh yeah, did I mention that it rains here……almost all the time?

Jeanie, will you sing the “Crayon Song?”

February 16, 2011

For those of you who knew me in my days at the Evergreen State College, you may remember a song I wrote titled “Periwinkle, Lemon Yellow, and Violet Blue.”    Or affectionately aka “Jeanie, will you sing the Crayon Song?”

While my creative drive is enjoying a renaissance, projects from the Deep are rising to the surface like a Mermaid to share their delicious mystery again with the world.

My friends called me Mermaid and Dolphin as Singers from the Deep Wells of Mystery — drawing the listener into a deeper part of themselves, into a heart that had been forgotten,  awakening the sleeping, dreaming child within.

That’s what this song is like.  A memory lane dive into the Oceans and Islands of our child’s imagination and memory.

Our Singer’s story is a remembrance of cherished times with Sister during childhood:  The games they used to play and the stories they told with picture, word and song.  It is a celebration of the beauty, the freedom and the creative imagination we all possess.

Over the years I’ve had ideas about what I wanted to do with this song.  The most significant being, creating a Children’s Book companion for the images that are evoked by the song’s story, and a Cd of the music to accompany.  Since this song was never recorded when I was in the studio, I’m thinking its now time to breathe the life back into this dream of my most requested song.

I’m looking for a handful of Musicians to help flesh out this tune with Bass, Percussion, perhaps a Horn or two.  And who knows…..

I’m feeling its time for the whole story to sing itself, to color itself on the pages, and surface this Mermaid singing from the deep.

So stay with me as the story unfolds, with illustration and news about the recording, and best of all, the Singing!

p.s.  sorry there is no audio available at this time.  I’ll keep you posted!

Tidal memory

February 11, 2011

ancient tide

I am drawn to the beach from the bluff.  I see the pilings eaten down to tiny stumps that once supported a thriving mining path.  The descending Sun quickens my step and thrills the beat of my heart.  I explore this new beach with the full breaths of salt sea air, barnacles beneath my shoes, gentle lapping foam.

As I dream, these ancient tidal waters carry me into a deep and reverent song.  I hear you ancestors.  The chorus of the Living Earth.

Eat your Veggies!

Lately, everything looks good to me!  I can find a beauty needle in a haystack.  While grocery shopping the other day, I paused a moment with my breath and noticed the colors and patterns and shapes in the Produce section.  Cliche’ or no, out came my camera phone.  Must snap shots.  LOL.

The Dance is amazing.  I was doing the beauty in ordinary moments thing.  Talk about being in the present moment.  Sure to make you feel alive.

Being in touch with the Living Earth has brought me such Joy.   You can learn a lot from the Spirits in Nature.  The Keys to Health and Happiness are closer than one might think.

Madrona Blue

February 10, 2011

I have a thing for Madrona Trees.  And the color blue.  Color arouses passion in me.  And Trees feed the sweetness.  The Longing of my Soul is comforted in this Heaven on Earth.

I stand at the edge.  A power point between the worlds of Earth, Air and Water…..the Sparks of this doorway provide the Fire and I am the Spirit, One with Her Beauty
